Weekend Getaway

I have picked a hell of a time to give up processed sweets and the like. I leave tomorrow for a weekend of convention goodness: hanging out with my best friends, partying it up, and just having a good time. The only problem is that I'm going from a situation which is pretty controlled to one that I have almost no say in.

So I'm going to have to work at saying no to the delicious things I know I'll want (I know there's a cupcake place where we'll be staying), and just try to focus on being fulfilled with the great social interaction I'll be having.

PS My life is all about candy right now. I'm surrounded by it. Loving PTO members put it out to show their thanks and leftovers from Halloween in the library. I stare at it longingly and then internally chant my mantra of "You don't need it, you just want it."

November Challenge

November is upon us. The leaves are turning orange, red, brown, or not turning at all (weird trees), and the holidays are about to set in. So what did I choose to take on for the month... DESSERT, SWEETS, CANDY! All of these are things I love, but they don't really seem to love me back.

So October is gone, but the dregs of candy are still present in the library office, and holiday season is just around the corner which means sugary treats are readily accessible and will continue to be for some time. So here I am saying that for the next month I'm going to explore my relationships with sweets and say no to all those processed goodies that don't do my body good.

The November challenge goes something like this: no candy and desserts. I need to add a few more details to this or else I'm going to be miserable. When I say desserts I mean the processed packaged things that can be bought in the cookie aisle, bakery, at restaurants, etc. Fresh fruit is ok for dessert, and I will be attempting to try a few healthier recipes that can replace certain sweet treats I love. There is nothing wrong with enjoying your food, but it doesn't pay to be a glutton.

On another note, after reading 21 Most Dangerous Candies, I came to realize just how much worse off I was eating candy. All this processed junk is another good reason to give it up. Getting this article today was a sign.
